Yes I have decided to join the world of twitter and tweet along with everyone else. I’ve no idea yet how I might use it or how often I might post twits or tweets (which is it?) but so far I am enjoying following other people, both online business people as well as the odd celebrity here and there.
I took the opportunity to install a Twitter tool for the blog which you can see sitting on the sidebar. It’s called simply Twitter Tools and it seems to do the job it was designed for perfectly well. Was just a simple plugin download and didn’t requite any HTML editing or anything more than activation and installing widget.
I took the opportunity while I was there to clean up the blog a little, I switched from three columns to two as I think it was looking a little cluttered and I took away some things I considered unnecessary like archives. I mean who really uses those archives?
Well I hope you like the changes and if you want to follow my ramblings then my twitter page is: http://twitter.com/stevekinsey

Welcome to the world of twitter! It’s a little crazy and a bit like if ADD and blogging had a child. All in all though, it should be a least a bit entertaining. Like the changes to the site as well. I agree with the archive thing. I mean, that’s what the search bar is for, right?

Hi,
I don’t see the point of Twitter – isn’t it just the equivalent of Facebook Status’s? Obviously Facebook has that, plus a whole lot else.
An explanation of the appeal of Twitter over Facebook would be appreciated.
Thanks

Twitter has taught me to love email all over again, mainly for the reason you note: “I’ve never been a synchronous sort of guy.” There are some who would say that my distaste for cellphones and twitter dates me. I’ll answer that the generational explanation is the wrong one, and that hasty interpretations are the kind of things one expects from synchronous sorts of folks.
That latter part is no doubt the defensiveness of the uncool.

Thanks for the comments, once I’ve been using it for a bit longer I’ll see if I can put together and article explaining if it’s been a useful tool or not. From the people I’ve spoken to, it seems to be a real love it or hate it application.

I find Twitter easier to use than Facebook. I don’t know why. I just do. Maybe because my favorite cartoon as a child was Tweetie. LOL

Welcome to Twitter, it also took me some time before I joined. I tweet about this and that. I have given myself about a year to really see if I have benefited from using it.
The nice thing is, when I have a new post then it tweets about it. I guess it would help more if I had more followers.

I see this very differently. This world of Twitter is not just my own playground. It is a community connecting place and when you have a tribe together it is more about the group energy and desire first.
RT is another form of validation as well as opportunity to spread information to help, inform and growth for the community.
How wonderful is it that so many are willing to share their finds so that I do not have to scour the net each day for solutions. What amazes me even more is how I will want to know something and pop there is a tweet that takes me right to the answer. Talk about a low of attraction tool.

I have been on Tweeter for just about three months. I have started following people and have made a few friends. I don’t know of the real marketing potential yet. I have heard it can generate a lot of visits to your webpage. I don’t know I have not seen any real increase. I didn’t’ start Tweeting to get visits any way but so far had I, I probably would feel like a real twit. Oh by the way, Steve I just started following you.

RT’s are very important since they are only done when people believe the content is relevant, beneficial, and praiseworthy to name a few. RT’s are also important because that’s how it gets to other people who are looking for the content who otherwise may not receive it. Rt’s are also important because they validate your followers and this will keep a nice stream of relevant tweets streaming by.

I’m not really a fan of twitter, I have to say… but a lot of people obviously are. I’m not really sure of the potential but it obviously works if so many people love it. I just don’t like the idea of people knowing what you’re doing all the time..

When a business owner asked me why he should be on twitter? I replied, because thats where your potential customers are right now. For example: A bank robber robs the bank because thats were the money is. If you are not marketing on twitter to be found by your potential customers, someone else will be.

Twitter kills blogging. So many people switched to Twitting instead of making their blog more and more better… I see the same situation here, leak of new posts could mean that the author is Twitting a lot. I know that many people do because it is easier way of being seen by people without hard work. But having own blog is something more than just writing. It’s just like having own car or flat. It is something more than just earning money.

You know, I’ve been using Twitter for some time. I make sure that everything is manual on there because I don’t want to come across as a spammer.
The best tips I can give you is tweet daily. Retweets are very important because your giving back to that person and it’s more likely they will retweet your tweets as well. I try to do like 3 retweets a day and then 2 of my own tweets for my own content.
Hope that helps you somewhat..
